Background

In 2025, a group of students from Arcadia University in Glenside, PA (US) made a visit to the Museums of The FutureNow at the end of a semester-long exploration in a course titled Imagination Rebellion: Art as a Pathway to Climate Justice. In small groups, they examined artifacts from an imagined future, and using a date, place, and driver, each group created a narratives for an object. In preparation for this workshop, the group had studied the book, From What Is to What If: Unleashing the Power of Imagination to Create the Future We Want, and they had visited projects run by Creative Climate Futures in Gorbals and Easterhouse as well as the Glasgow Future Fair. They were inspired by the power and potential of these neighborhoods to forge a future of possibility despite dire climate predictions. In their imagined futures associated with the artifacts presented above, the students bring together their understanding of past and present challenges with ideas of a future in which hope and justice prevail.
